Well, she chose to remain in the darkness. At the very end shriek was given an option, remain in the darkness or embrace the light. And personally, I think it worked out pretty well. So they went with the “villain doesn’t get a happy ending” trope. Sure, Shriek’s ending left more to be desired. It’s like giving the murderer of your sibling a cake out of kindness.įinally I’ll go into Shriek’s character a bit more and her ending. The fact that he even tried to be nice after that should be insane. She ripped, essentially, Ori’s sister from his life. The reason for this is that Shriek killed Ku. I think the one time after getting Sier was enough. Secondly, I think it didn’t make too much sense for ori to be nice to Shriek. He didn’t try to save Shreik because I think to him it wasn’t as important as his own family. It was to save Ku and potentially saving Niwen. One of the reasons why he didn’t seem to care was because saving shriek was never his goal in the first place.

Next I’m going to talk about ori and why he didn’t seem to care about Shreik. She was shamed and ridiculed for being different.

It sounded like some edgy name an angsty teenager gave themselves to sound cool. When I first heard the name I wasn’t impressed.

Let me explain my point of view.įirst off, I’m going to start with the name. I do really agree that she should have had more to her story, however, I really did like her ending. Instead of living a life in agony and forever blinded by shame and hatred, she was released. Shriek dies, but it was for her own good, as well as the forest's. Just like how a baby wants a hug from their mother when their sad. She wanted to feel the love and safety from her dead parents when she was hurt, so she craved for their the warmth of their embrace. In my opinion the ending was 100% perfect on Shriek's part, because it showed her TRUE colors an outcast shamed and hated by her own kind.
#Ori and the will of the wisps screenshots serial
It's like when a kid grows up to be a serial killer or a psychopath. After spending such a long time isolated knowing nothing except that everybody hated her, how could she ever understand that what she is doing was wrong. Shriek however doesn't know anything about compassion or love, nobody protected or cared for her. Kuro was blinded by the hate and grief of her dead children, but she still knew about love and compassion which is what unfolded her in the end to change her mind. It wouldn't make sense if she got redeemed, because how could she. She grew up hated and alone in exile and killed anything that disturbed her. She had noone to teach and care for her, or so to say "no parental figure", AT ALL. Plus, all she cared about was her isolation. Tldr Shriek may have been seen to similar to Out I from the first game if also given a redemption arc. Overall, I agree with your sentiment and hope in the future some level of expansion for Shriek or something is revealed. However, if Shriek were to have a change of heart similar to Kuro and sacrificed herself to become the new Tree of Light for Niwel, I think the writers may have thought the plots were too similar and cookie cutter. Shriek, in my opinion, is better designed and just as motivated as Kuro was. In the first game we were given an amazingly written and motivated villian with Kuro. But, considering how Ori's story ended, I'm not super hopeful. I am saying this because of how open the ending of the story was (no spoilers here, if you know you know). They are saving a redemption arc for a definitive release or some kind of story expansion. I have two reasons why I think she didn't have a redemption moment in this story. Ok so I agreed with everything you had said.
